Your Rock?

Your Rock?

As I write my first blog entry on the theme of “My Rock”, I want to pose a question to you:  Who or what is your “rock”?  Who or what do you count on to carry you through when a storm comes into your life?  Is it a person?  Your job?  Your money?  Your possessions?

A few years ago, I was at a friend’s husband’s funeral.  As I stood back, waiting to express my condolences to her, I overheard her say, “I don’t know what I’m going to do now.  He was my rock”.  My heart sank when I heard her say this.  Since that time, I have heard various people refer to others in their life as their “rock”.  I always wonder what they will do if that “rock” is suddenly gone . . . and I find myself praying that they will put their hope and trust in Jesus Christ – the one true Rock.

The bible says that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever”. (Heb.13:8)  He is the ONLY one who NEVER changes.  He is immutable. “You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You remain; and they will all grow old like a garment; like a cloak You will fold them up and they will be changed. But You are the same, and Your years will not fail.  (Ps. 102:26,27; Heb. 1:10-12)  Jesus Christ is the one and only true constant.

The bible also says that Jesus will never leave us or abandon us (Heb. 13:5).  NEVER.  Hallelujah!!  So, if my spouse comes to me and says, “I don’t love you anymore.  I want a divorce”, Jesus will still be there, reminding me of his unconditional love for me.  Or, if the doctor calls with a sobering diagnosis, Jesus will still be there, walking with me every step of the way.  I will never be alone, for He is always with me . . . and I’ve come to realize that His presence is something I never want to be without.

Yes, Jesus truly is MY Rock.
Is He yours?
I pray He is . . . or will be soon.

He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.  (Ps. 62:6)

God is so great if it hadn’t been for him in my life, I would’t have survived stage 3 colon cancer, my husband thought he was going to lose me twice but Glory be to God I am still here!
