When The Storms Come

When The Storms Come

“A fierce wind is blowin’, an image of the times.  The sky is growin’ ever dark.”  – opening line of “My Rock”

As I was doing a re-write of “My Rock” a few years ago, I began to think about the changes that were taking place in America and the apparent uneasiness that seemed to pervade our society.  I was – and still am – concerned about the direction in which our country is headed.  I saw a “fierce wind blowing”, indicating a storm on the horizon . . .

Fast forward to 2012, where economic disaster is looming, social unrest is simmering  and . . . , based on the number of unprecedented natural disasters we have seen over the past few years, perhaps the earth is groaning.  As recently as March 2nd,  a record was set  for the greatest number of tornadoes in the month of March:  80 tornadoes in ONE day, surpassing the record of 74 for the entire month.   All of these things have caused many people, Christians included, to become anxious and fearful.  However, we need to remember  who our God is and that nothing is happening of which He is not aware.

“I hear the distant thunder and my heart begins to fear.  Then I remember who You are.”

I remember who He is . . . He is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent God!  I remember who I am . . . I am His child. (Jn. 1:12)  And . . . I remember His promises . . . promises to protect, provide for, comfort, deliver, etc., those who choose to abide in Him.  (Ps. 91; John 15)

God said in His word that He would shake everything that could be shaken.  (Heb. 12:25-29)  However, if our trust is truly in the Lord, WE will not be shaken.  We need not fear if our hope and trust are in God.   Ps. 62:1,2  says:  For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation.  He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.

So, as the Lord’s return grows nearer and the birth pangs increase (Mt. 24:8), as the wind blows harder and the storms grow more fierce, we need to make sure that we  really have “built our house” upon the Rock of Ages.  (Mt. 7:24-27)  If our trust is anywhere but in Him, we will be shaken.   However, if we choose to rest in knowing that He holds us in the palm of His hand,  (Jn. 10:28,29) our hearts will be filled with joy and peace unspeakable.

The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.  (Ps. 18:2)

CW – That’s why I released THIS as my first song and not another . . . felt it was much needed. 🙂

Michael – You are kind. I’m out of the practice of writing so it certainly doesn’t “flow” these days . . . but hopefully that will change! Thanks for your encouragement!
