Let This Mind Be In You

Let This Mind Be In You

Hello friends!

Recently, I shared this post via instagram but thought I would share again here:

“Therefore as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, long-suffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.” (Colossians 3:12).

Over the past several years, I’ve thought a lot about each of the above attributes.  I’ve thought about them in relation to my own walk with God, but also in regards to unity in the body of Christ.  And I’ve thought about the one unanswered prayer of Jesus, which is “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” (John 17:20,21)

I wonder if this prayer will ever be answered in the affirmative.  I pray that it will – that in these last days there may at least be a remnant of the body of Christ that would be obedient to the command to love one another, so that “all will know” that we are His disciples. (John 13:35). This requires humility … surrender … submission … all of which were modeled for us by the peerless Creator of the universe – the matchless and inimitable One Who “did not consider it robbery to be equal with God” (Phil 2:6) – Who therefore subjected Himself to barbaric brutality, both before and during His agonizing death on the cross. All for you. All for me. All so that we can have sweet fellowship with Him both now and for eternity. And all He asks of us is that we “act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God” (Micah 6:8).

How arrogant of us to say we won’t forgive … How prideful to hold onto offenses, when the unrivaled and unequaled God of all lowered Himself into humanity as one of us, was tortured and labeled a criminal, then died the excruciatingly horrible death of crucifixion. Is this not the ultimate picture of humility? Should we not “let this mind be in <us>, which was also in Christ Jesus”? (Phil 2:5)

If we truly want to glorify the God we claim to love, let’s begin and continue to embrace humility, pursue unity, and love intentionally … for “love keeps no record of wrongs”. (1 Cor. 13:5)

Running the race to win,

Trish

I’m curious regarding your opinion on this: Do you believe that the Elect are predetermined, and by that I mean chosen in advance by God? Or do you believe that we as individuals can choose to be among the Elect of God? 🙂
